Lucian Freud was one of the most significant artists of the 20th and early 21st centuries. David Dawson—Director of the Lucian Freud Archive and for two decades Freud’s assistant, model, and friend—appears in conversation to discuss Freud’s life and work, now chronicled in the comprehensive two-volume book Lucian Freud (Phaidon).

Dawson features in at least seven of Freud’s pictures, including the unfinished portrait Freud was working on when he died, and Naked Man, Back View (1992), in The Met collection. Join Dawson as he shares stories about life in the studio, his experience modeling for Freud, and the beauty evoked in portraits of Freud’s friends and family, his lovers, his neighbors, and others whose looks he liked, from his bookmaker to a bank robber. Dawson’s talk also features images of Freud’s paintings, drawings, sketches, prints, and etchings.

Use the entrance at 83rd Street and Fifth Avenue.
