On the occasion of the opening of the Campus OWL liaison office in the German House in New York we invite you to an evening of music with a String Quartet, including violist Maren Rothfritz who is an alumna of Detmold University of Music, welcome remarks by the Consul General David Gill, the Director of DAAD & DWIH New York Benedikt Brisch and the Chairwoman of Campus OWL Professor Dr. Ingeborg Schramm-Wölk as well as to a conversation about the Digital Future of Work between Jun. Professor Dr. Anja-Kristin Abendroth, Faculty of Sociology, Bielefeld University and Felix Zeltner, Journalist & Co-Founder, Work Awesome; followed by a reception.

Campus OWL is a network of five universities in OstWestfalenLippe (OWL), Germany. The OWL region is one of the strongest commercial and technology centers in Germany. Institutions of higher education and industry are powerful partners. The New York based liaison office promotes opportunities for study and research and facilitates collaboration with North American partner institutions.

Conversation about Digital Future of Work:

Anja-Kristin Abendroth is a Junior Professor for Technical and Social Change at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University, Germany. She is one of the Executive Board members of the interdisciplinary collaborative research program “Design of Flexible Work Environments – Human Centered Use of Cyber-Physical Systems in Industry 4.0” and part of the program “Digital Future” funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia and run by the Universities of Bielefeld and Paderborn. As one of the project leaders of the German Research Foundation project “Organizational Inequalities and Interdependencies between Capabilities in Work and Personal Life” she is further studying how workplace policies, structures, and cultures shape employees’ work-life interface and social inequalities in the labor market. In 2013 she defended her dissertation, “Working Women in Europe: How the Country, Workplace, and Family Context Matter,” at the Faculty of Sociology/ICS at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. Her research interests include the digital future of work, the interplay of work and family life, social inequalities and organizational and cross-national comparative research.

Felix Zeltner is a New York based journalist and entrepreneur focused on science, technology and culture. He is the co-founder of Work Awesome, a New York and Berlin based company empowering people for the future of work through summits and innovation journeys around the globe. His global reporting for ARTE, Europe’s leading bilingual television network, won him the Axel Springer Award for Young Journalists and brought nominations for the Grimme Online Award and Deutscher Reporterpreis. He was listed as one of “30 under 30” journalists to watch by Medium Magazin and awarded with the Transatlantic Media Fellowship by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. His journalistic work has also been featured on German Public TV, German Public Radio and in Süddeutsche Zeitung, Der Spiegel, GEO, GQ and WIRED. He is the co-author of “Stadtnomaden” (2019), a bestselling book about his year-long moving journey through New York City with his family.
