B-P SP 1.1 Fundamentals of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy

Learning outcomes
• After successful completion of the module, students will be able,
• – to distinguish clinical psychology from other areas of applied psychology and from other fields of work relevant to the health care system on the basis of the knowledge acquired.
• – to present essential basic concepts, theoretical positions, empirical approaches and scientific find-ings of clinical psychology.
• – to name and define the most important psychological and psychophysiological disorders.
• – to describe different forms of clinical-psychological and psychotherapeutic intervention and to name the relevant target groups, settings and framework conditions in the German health care system.

    Teaching form(s)
    In class study: Seminar-like lecture, interactive development of the contents as well as exercises in the form of case studies, group work, role plays and casuistics, testing of clinical-psychological diagnosis and intervention methods.
    Self-study: Accompanying literature study as well as processing of test questions and exercises.

    Participation requirements
    It is recommended that the modules from semesters 1 to 3 have been completed.

    Form(s) of examination
    The students complete this module with a term paper (12-20 pages) with processing of a case study and treat-ment planning. The term paper can also be written in group work (maximum 4 students) as specified by the lecturer.

    Prerequisites for the award of credits
    Passing the written exam with a module grade of at least 4.0.

    Use of the module in other degree programs and context
    The major Clinical Psychology (B-P SP 1) is a major of the study program Psychology (B.Sc.). The major is compulsory for all students of the program (compulsory module). The major can also be used for the Business Psychology (B.Sc.) program as a compulsory elective module.
    This module is closely related to the modules Introduction to Psychology, its History and Research Methods (B-P 1.1), Developmental Psychology (B-P 6.1), Personality and Differential Psychology (B-P 6.2) and Social Psy-chology (B-P 6.3).
