Here is a quick checklist / overview of information you need to know:

  1. Registration
    1. Invitation Letter to your New York semester (which included the visa processing documents from Berkeley College) has been received by you already. This was sent to you by Hochschule Fresenius in Germany. If you have any concerns during this process please contact your CCIS office. Please bring this letter with you to the United States as it is helpful for you to have the information.
  2. Accommodation Options in New York
    1. Read this before you consider accommodation options:
      ♦ NYC Neighborhood Guide with some tips on how and where to find apartments
      ♦ Accommodation offers posted on our blog with our preferred vendors as well some helpful tips
  3. Culture Week Sign Up for Activities [see below]
    1. You will receive your class schedules for Berkeley College and Pace University during orientation week
    2. You will have plenty of time to explore New York on your own during culture week – if you need ideas please ask the interns supporting the program and/or Ms. Nayar
  4. Internship
    1. If you are interested in pursuing an internship in the United States – read our internship information page. Write to Ms. Nayar at the earliest if this is something you are actively pursuing. 
    2. You are not required to do an internship after your study semester but if you choose to do so, you will be allowed to extend your visa for a period of 3 months.
  5. Emergency Protocol + Critical Information
    1. Please register yourself in the German Federal Foreign Office so that you are updated about critical information during your time in the United States. Register yourself at the Auswaertiges Amt Database. Additionally, please share the following website information with your parents and caregivers about emergency services. For medical information click HERE
    2. Once you have a local US phone number please download the critical resource contact card (details below) so you have access to updated numbers for Hochschule Fresenius (New York), Berkeley College and Pace University.

Culture Week Activities

Please use the link below to sign up (only sign up for yourself). The password for all events is “fresenius“. Friends and family members who might be traveling with you during culture week can meet you after the activity / except on Friday where they can pre-purchase their tickets online if they choose to come.


  • Tuesday Berkeley College Orientation [HSF + AMD]

    • Arrive at least 5 mins early to ensure that we can start orientation at 10am.

    • Immigration Documents: If you have not done so already, please email a copy of your immigration documents. This includes: your main passport page, your J1 visa in your passport, and proof of health insurance. As a reminder, your insurance document must include your name and the dates you are covered in the United States. Your coverage must comply with the medical insurance requirements for Exchange Visitors outlined on the J-1 Health Insurance Acknowledgement that you signed.ID Card Photo: If you have not done so already, please email Colleen Chapman a passport sized photo so we can have your student ID card printed and ready for you when you arrive.
