Johannes Brahms: A German Requiem U.S. Premiere of the New Critical Edition

2nd March 2020 @ 8:00 pm

The Oratorio Society of New York presents Brahms’ beloved Requiem as you have never heard it before at Carnegie Hall on March 2, 2020.

The German Consulate General Recommends:

Hear Brahms’ beloved Requiem as you have never heard it before, restored to the composer’s original vision in honor of its 150th anniversary.

With its message of comfort to those who mourn, Brahms focused his Requiem on the needs of the living and created a mosaic of grief and hope that is simultaneously personal and universal in its scope. This new critical edition allows that mosaic to shine with burnished clarity.

The Oratorio Society of New York performed the U.S. premiere of A German Requiem in 1877 and is honored to perform the U.S. premiere of this new interpretation.

Soprano Susanna Phillips and baritone Takaoki Onishi join the chorus and the orchestra of the Society.
