A devoted ascetic and the first female Sufi mystic, the 8th-century Muslim saint Rabia al-Basri provides the spiritual core of Niyaz’s The Fourth Light Project. With incantatory singing, sacred dance, and electro-acoustic music, this performance brings to life al-Basri’s revolutionary teachings of divine love and non-duality, which provide the very foundation of Sufi mysticism.
