Professor Dr. Margarita Mathiopoulos is a German entrepreneur, political scientist, and historian. In 2001 she co-founded ASPIDE Group, of which she is the CEO. ASPIDE is a boutique consulting company specializing in energy assets, green technology, and security implementation. Professor Dr. Mathiopoulos serves as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of XINGDA (since 2017) and has served as Senior Advisor to the CEO of BAE SYSTEMS for European and North American Markets (1997-2001); as Senior Vice President, Spokeswoman and Head of the Division Marketing and International Relations of Norddeutsche Landesbank (1992-1997); as Associate Director and Member of the Board of Directors of the Aspen Institute Berlin (1987-1990), and as a Press-Manager and Speechwriter at IBM Germany (1985-1987).
Since 1988, she has been a guest lecturer and guest professor in U.S. Foreign Policy and International Relations at Stanford University, Free University Berlin, Humboldt University, and at the University of Hannover and as an Honorary Professor at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Professor Dr. Mathiopoulos was the foreign policy and security adviser to the Chairman of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) of Germany (2002-2011) and the Chairwoman of the Transatlantic Forum of the FDP (2005-2011). She is a foreign policy advisor to political leaders in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
She has published numerous articles on the NATO Alliance, U.S.-European, U.S.-Russian-European, and U.S.-Chinese-European relations; and seven books, including the bestseller “The End of the Bonn Republic.”
