Just two weeks before the president presents his annual address on the State of the Union to Congress and the nation, two veteran Washington insiders, Senator Joseph Lieberman and Secretary Jacob Lew, will issue their own State of the Union report to members of our community and take questions – about American politics, Israel and the challenges of the moment.

Jacob Lew headed the Office of Management and Budget in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, served as secretary of the treasury and chief of staff for President Obama and special assistant to President Clinton. Prior to entering government, he was managing director and COO for two different Citigroup business units and executive vice president of New York University. He is currently Visiting Professor at Columbia University and a partner at Lindsay Goldberg. Joseph Lieberman served ten years in the Connecticut State Senate and six years as its attorney general before being elected to the US Senate. In 1994, he won the largest landslide ever in a Connecticut Senate race and was reelected in 2006 while running as an Independent. Selected as Al Gore’s vice-presidential running mate in 2000, he was the first Jewish American to run on any political party’s presidential ticket. Since his retirement from office, he has served on the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council, worked as senior counsel in a NYC law firm and taught political science at Yeshiva University.
