THE ANNUAL DV GREEN CARD LOTTERY – DV 2020

This year’s Diversity Visa Green Card Lottery (“DV-2020”) runs from October 3, 2018 to November 6, 2018.  Under this program, and as in previous years, a certain number (generally 50,000) of green cards are made available to eligible individuals from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States who meet the minimum educational requirements.

Entries for the DV-2020 Lottery MUST be submitted electronically under www.dvlottery.state.gov during the above-referenced processing period. Application instructions and additional information can be found at

https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Diversity-Visa/DV-Instructions-Translations/DV-2020%20Program%20Instructions.pdf.

Note: As indicated in the instructions, for the purposes of eligibility some countries include components and dependent areas overseas.  If you are a native of a dependency or overseas territory, please select the appropriate country of eligibility. For example, natives of Macau S.A.R should select Portugal, and natives of Martinique should select France.

Caveat: The Department of State, Office of Visa Services, advised of a notable increase in fraudulent emails and letters sent to Diversity Visa (DV) program applicants. The scammers behind these fraudulent emails and letters are posing as the U.S. government in an attempt to extract payment from DV applicants. Please note that fees for the DV application process are paid to the U.S. Embassy or consulate cashier at the time of your scheduled appointment. The U.S. government does not ask applicants to send payment in advance by check, money order, or wire transfer. Applicants will be able to check on their DV-2020 entries using their confirmation number.
